BAYARD MEN’S GOLF ASSOCIATION LEAGUE RULES 2024

The league follows USGA rules and local Chimney Rock Golf Course rules.

In addition, the members have voted on the following rules.

League Dues

League Dues 2024: $85.00 for Team Members, $40.00 for Substitutes, plus $5.00 for steak. Total dues are $90.00 for team members and $45.00 for substitutes.

League members are responsible to pay for their league dues before league play starts on April 25, 2024. League members are responsible for their course membership or green fees when playing on the men’s league. Members with dues not paid prior to start of league play will not receive points for their team until dues are paid. Their competition will play against par* to earn their points. Dues for substitutes should be paid before the first day that they play.

League General

The league will be limited to 32 teams.

The league will start on April 25, 2024 and run 16 weeks to August 8, 2024, tentatively. In the event of a rain out or foul weather delay, the league schedule allows for make-up of one week of play.

The championships tournament consists of a sixteen-team double elimination format. The championship tournament is tentatively scheduled to start on Monday, August 12, 2024 with matches scheduled on Mondays and Thursdays until a champion is determined. These dates may change due to any rain out days or foul weather postponements. Any matches that can’t be played on the scheduled date must be made up before the next scheduled set of matches. If a substitute is required for a team, only league listed substitutes can be used.

Steak night for members will be on the last night of the first half and a make-up night the following week.

General Play

League play consists of a two-member team competing against another two-member team. If a team member is absent, the present player can use a substitute from the substitute roster or play alone against the other team. Team members cannot combine scores played at different times or different days. If a substitute is used, the player or sub with the lower handicap will be the A player and the higher handicap will be the B player.

All members handicap will be determined based on their first round of play. Points and day money will not be awarded the first night of league but will start on the second week of play.

Play can start at any time on the day of play or the team must be on the tee box ready to start no later than 5:30 PM. In the event that a team cannot make the 5:30 PM deadline, they must make arrangements with the opposing team prior to 4:00 PM on Thursday or they will forfeit the match. Delay of start or playing on a different day is by mutual agreement. If a team does not show up and on the tee box by the 5:30 PM deadline, the present team may play on as a twosome to compete for day money and points. If a team knows that they are not going to make league play, please call the clubhouse or your opponents for that week and let them know so they don’t have to sit around waiting and can play or join in with another team to compete for points and day money.

Senior players 70 years of age and older may play from the red tees. Senior players must make this choice at the beginning of the season and must continue through the end of the season.

To help keep play moving the following rule applies. If a group is approaching the green or on the green, do not start your play in front of them. You may start your play after they tee off or else find another hole which is not backed up.

To help keep players moving, the restriction of bar cart only on tee boxes is removed. Cart can make player contact anywhere on the course.

To help keep play moving the new USGA rule applies. If a player hits a ball out of bounds, he has the option of dropping in the fairway if they so choose. Players must find where their ball went out of bounds and create an imaginary perpendicular to the fairway, no closer to the hole. From there, you can now drop anywhere within two club-lengths from the edge of the fairway and behind the line. The next shot will be your fourth. If the player decides to hit again from the tee box and again hits the ball out of bounds, player must find where their ball went out of bounds and create an imaginary perpendicular to the fairway, no closer to the hole. From there, you can now drop anywhere within two club-lengths from the edge of the fairway and behind the line. The next shot will be your sixth.

To help keep play moving the following rule applies. A ball hit into the creek on holes 5 or 6 will be played from the designated drop zone after taking the appropriate penalty. The creek on all other holes will be played by USGA rules.

To help keep play moving the following rule applies. There shall be no more than 5 players in a group.

If a team can't play on league night and wish to compete for points, they must make a request to the other team prior to scheduled league play. Competition is by mutual agreement. These teams do not compete for day money. Teams must play a makeup round prior to league night or by the Monday following the scheduled league match, for posting purposes. If one team forfeits the remaining team plays for points according to scoring rules below.

Any un-gentlemanly conduct by a team member will result in the immediate suspension of the team for that day and the league officers will meet to vote on length of suspension.

Scoring System

The league will use a 5-point scoring system. The A players will play for 2 points, one for Low Net for Match (Stroke) and one for Most Holes Won for Match (Net). The B players will play for 2 points, one for Low Net for Match (Stroke) and one for Most Holes Won for Match (Net). The final point is a Team Point for Low Team Net for Match, for a 5-point total. Points will not be awarded on the first night of league.

If a team does not show up, the present team receives 3 points, a point per player and the team point. That team can earn 2 more points by playing against par*. If an individual does not show up, the present player receives 1 point and can earn 1 more point by playing against par*. The team point can only be won by a two member team or a member and a sub. Par* for this scoring will be 38 for individuals and 76 for teams.

Play During Inclement Weather

Rain outs will be called by 3:30 PM by the golf course superintendent. If a weather warning arises after the start of play, the golf course superintendent and clubhouse will call off play. If the weather warning passes in time, play may resume and the round finished.

If play is called off by the superintendent and clubhouse during league and play cannot resume after the weather warning, the following rules apply. If you stop play before you have completed 4 holes you can play the match on another day. A substitute is allowed if the round is played over. If you have played 4 or more holes and have to stop you must finish the round from that point on another day. There can be no substituting players on the remaining round. If one or the other team cannot finish the round on another day, the team that shows up plays against par* to earn the points.

Teams may play a makeup round on any other night up to the following Monday night for posting purposes and if one team forfeits the remaining team plays against par* to receive the points.

Day Money – Championship Money

Payouts of the money will be as follows. There will be day money each week for the top 3 teams starting the second week of league play. There will be prize money paid to the top 4 teams of the championship tournament.

Day money on rain out not made up will go back into the league coffers.

Day money to top three teams each week is only available to those teams playing on Thursday night. (Rainouts can be re-scheduled prior to the next Tuesday; however, rain-out day money goes to league coffers)

Day money can only be won by a two-member team or one team member and a substitute, not by a lone team member. A substitute playing for a team will receive his share of any day money earned.

Tie Breakers

In the event of a tie for day money in a league match – Score card playoff of team net strokes starting with the most difficult hole, the next most difficult hole, the next most difficult hole, etc.

In the event of a tie in the league championship tournament – By mutual consent, teams may choose between a coin flip, high card draw or to play a sudden death playoff starting on hole # 1 followed by hole # 9 then back to hole # 1 then hole # 9 until a winner is decided.
